ROW80 Round 5 - 5th Update

Family dramas have meant I haven't got as much done as I would have liked since Wednesday, but I've started to make up for it today, writing just over 800 words for my novel and cutting another 8 pages or so out of my thesis. I think one of my later chapters is almost complete, but I still haven't done enough work on the first part of my novel, which is what I really wanted to make progress on.

I also went to a writing workshop meeting yesterday - the first I've been able to attend in months - and it was good to catch up with some of my writerly friends again (and there were biscuits and cake :D). I didn't workshop anything myself, but hopefully I'll have something to submit next month (I've written plenty, just not in any logical/discernable order lol).

I'm hoping that this week I'll have more time to myself; for the last month there's almost always been someone else around annoying me about something or other, which makes it really hard to focus on anything. I still have a fair way to go on my thesis, and I want to make more progress on my novel, since my forward momentum has kind of faltered since the start of the year :(

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, I leave you with my latest work of art (some of you will have seen it when I posted it on my Facebook account). Entitled "Rainbow Dreams", it's hailed by art critics as a daring look into the darkest recesses of the human psyche. A journey through light that brings together heart, mind and soul in a harmonious crescendo of ecstasy.

It's also the results of me scraping off the acrylic skins that dried on my paint palette after I did my children's book illustration backgrounds last year. Hey, if Pollock can make millions from making a mess with paint, so can I, dammit!

Judgemental Dog seems impatient for me to get some writing done...

See how other ROW80ers are going here.

Rex was feeling pretty poorly over most of the weekend, causing us all a bit of worry. He seems to be slightly happier now, though he still hasn't eaten much. He's due for another visit to the vet on Tuesday night.

P.S. If anyone else has Words with Friends and wants to challenge me, my user name is RebeccaJFleming. Look forward to playing :)

  1. Hi Rebecca, wow, you sure have a lot on the go, and a lot of talent. Maybe Rex can keep folks away so you can get more work done. :)

  2. I adore German Shepherds (my hubs and I would choose his breed if we didn't live in an apt). Rex is gorgeous. And you seem to be doing really well! Why the downer. You have a lot going on it seems. I remember doing my essays while trying to do my desertion (hellish) and I wasn't writing a novel at the same time. X

  3. It's hard to get the writing done when there's a lot of drama in the personal life. Sounds like you did well to get done what you did. Here's hoping this week's better!

  8. It sounds like you are doing well even with all the happenings. I hope Rex gets to feeling better soon. That is always rough on the muse. And I love the art you share. I still envy your talent!

  10. Rebecca I love your creative drive :) being a fellow artist I appreciate the remains of paint on the palette (I've been told many-A-times that I should frame my palette and exhibit it as part of an exhibition lol!

On the writing front; I think you are doing great (800 words in a day is pretty excellent); so don't be too tough on yourself and enjoy the journey you have embarked on. :)
