Also, since I uploaded Belvedere, my illustrated children's book last week, someone has bought a copy! That means I'm a published author with a real live audience! I don't care if I've only sold one copy, it's a technicality and I'm running with it. SQUEEE! The book is available for preview (or purchase) through the above link (only in hardcover or paperback at this stage, but I'm hoping to make an eBook copy available soon).
In slightly less awesome news, my knee exploded on Monday night (okay, it didn't explode, but it felt like it did, and writing 'explode' made it look cool). I'd like to say it was while I was doing something awesome like martial arts or getting into a bar brawl or rescuing a child from a rabid goat (shut up, that could so happen), but in reality, it happened while I was... walking. Over perfectly even ground. Yup, I was just wandering across campus after uni and suddenly my knee cracked and went out from under me (at which point I emitted a high-pitched girly shriek). I'm having an MRI tomorrow to find out what has actually happened, but so far it looks to be a torn ligament. I'm hoping it's something that can just be fixed with rest or maybe a bit of physio, because I have to use a walking stick to get around at the moment and I feel (and probably look) like an idiot.
And I had my final exam ever yesterday! I think I went well, though not as well as I hoped to, but that's okay.
The painkillers are making me feel special.
I wouldn't be too worried about Judgemental Dog this week; he's perfectly happy to spend all day 'recharging'.

See how other ROW80ers are going here.
Oh I love the book! It looks sooo good! Once I'm not broke you'll have 2 copies sold :D
ReplyDeleteSorry about the knee but I think you could rock a walking stick. The trick is to OWN IT.
Congrats on the sale! And you're doing good on your thesis too. OUCH. I'm so sorry about your knee :(
ReplyDeleteAdd another eventual copy sold to the "when I'm not broke" list. :) That's so exciting, though; I'll bet lots more purchases are on their way, too.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy with the knee! That cannot feel good and I hope it heals up nice and quick for you. I guess having time to take it easy because of it is a silver lining. Just like I imagine the silver lining to working on all your school stuff now and getting it over and done with will help the latter part of the month be a great time to explore other things as a break!
And I think you should just pretend there's a blade or a flask hidden in your walking stick to get the confidence of a truly debonair personage, and you'll be the envy of everyone.
You do keep busy! The book looks great, congratulations on the first sale! Perhaps a little video trailer to advertise it on Youtube for Christmas sales? Hope the MRI goes okay and like you said 'turns out to be fixable'.

Congrats on your sale! And on the progress of your thesis. I need to get my butt in gear and start working on some projects I have to do for my master's program before I get behind. I hope everything goes ok with the MRI and that you feel better. (And by the way, I choked on my tea reading about the rabid goat; that...was awesome! lol)
ReplyDeleteyou could paint dragon's on your walking stick, jazz it up a bit. Your uni load makes my hair curl. Hope the knee gets sorted soon, best of luck for the week.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your knee...but I love the way you write - even about setbacks like exploding knees.
ReplyDeleteAll the best with your goals.
Keep on keepin' on.
Congrats on the book! Awesome...and yes, an audience of one is definitely SQUEEEworthy.
ReplyDeleteIf you build it, they will come...or something like that!
Writing that thesis is definitely good progress, too.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Haha, I am snickering over that rabid goat. Agreed, it is definitely a possibility. :p
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the knee, and I hope all goes well with the MRI. And hang in there with that thesis! You'll have those last couple thousand words written in no time. :D
Oooh. I second all the votes for a cool cane. I'd even go a step further and suggest a very Gandalf-like staff. Then when you answer the door and there is a salesman there (which never happens anymore and renders half of my imagined pranks moot), you could bang it heavily and say: "You shall not pass."
ReplyDeleteBuddy of mine blew out his knee jogging across a basketball court. We weren't playing yet, mind you. He was just getting there, and no one was near him. It's like... we play basketball every week and the invisible knee ghost is what gets him? Bah. Best luck with the healing and the writing.
Congrats on the sale and getting started. It only takes one and then hopefully everything else balloons from there. It's a great spot to be in right before the holiday season.
Congratulations on the first sale and also on your thesis! That's fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about your knee. I hope it's nothing serious. I will keep my fingers crossed. Take a good care of yourself.
