ROW80 Round 3 - Final Update

I had been hoping to finish ROW80 Round 3 on a high note, but after almost a week of having two hours or less sleep each night my optimism is at an all-time low; having to redo nearly a month's worth of painting/drawing after your old man spills red lemonade all over your artwork originals will have that effect. Especially when he then proceeds to wake you up at 5-6am most mornings by crashing around in the kitchen like an elephant having an epileptic fit.

Yes... Some people are only alive because I can't afford a hitman.

I haven't had time to even touch my eBook prototype. With a first draft of my children's book due this week I had to spend the whole time trying to redo the damaged illustrations. I got some of the backgrounds done, and luckily some that were ruined had already been scanned, but I'm going to just have to reuse a lot since there's no way I'll get all of it done over the next week on top of everything else I have due. Aside from two basic dragon drawings, I'm going to have to do all the other character illustrations again, as well as add more new ones. So I'll be pretty much mainlining energy drinks over the next week. Luckily next week is the mid-semester break (stupid name since it's basically at the end of the semester) so I don't have to go to any classes.

I did manage to get a first draft of the text for my story done, so it just needs to be edited. The next few days will just be trying to catch up on my illustrated children's book project, as well as trying (again) to get the touch interaction for my Flash eBook working (really, really hoping it won't be as difficult as I'm expecting). I'll also have to do a write up on usability testing for another assignment at some point (oh, joy...).

Here's a sample shot of my blue dragon against the forest background (the characters in the finished book will be in more interesting poses):

Of course we are, Judgemental Dog. Of course we are.

See how other ROW80ers went here.

  1. Oh, Rebecca, I'm so sorry that you're not able to enjoy the end of the Round (not that I don't understand!). Sleep deprivation added to having to redo something, especially when it's forced on you, is just awful!

Here's hoping that things get better for you, very soon!

  2. I'm so sorry that happened to your illustrations! I know that was discouraging.

Good luck with your projects and I'll see you in Round 4. I hope things get better for you.

  3. Oh, man, what a major set-back! I've had stuff like that happen before (oh, you know, the disappearance of a whole notebook full of novel! ARG!) and it can definitely be a major discouragement. But it looks like you're picking yourself back up and charging ahead, so that's really good and super admirable.

Especially since the sample shot is adorable! And I'm pretty sure you'll get major karma points and things will turn around for Round 4!

Best of luck! And I always find that, if I can pull myself up from a set-back, it usually winds up better the second time around anyway.

  4. It would seem that despite some very serious setbacks, you still have a positive attitude and sense of humor - so I applaud that! I look forward to getting to know you better in round 4!

  5. Have you thought about the hole in your back yard? I'm just saying! We've all been on that fine edge of kill 'em or keep 'em. I'm glad that you're getting your mojo back. The next round, he'll drink water! Love the dragon. Good Luck

  6. Oh you poor thing! I can't imagine how bad it must feel to lose that much work. I lost 4000 words during ROW80 and went crazy. All the best for getting it all redone as quickly as possible. And see you next round
