Though I haven't really made any progress on my literature review or novella over the last week or so, I have nevertheless been busy. Along with my
noir comic assignment and my statistics assignment, I've also been working on designs for my Flash eBook prototype, which I will begin making soon. The aim is to develop it over the mid-year break and then begin user-testing in the first week of the second semester. Since I'm doing user-testing, this means I also have to write up survey and interview questions, as well as filling out an ethics form (all 30 pages of it; anyone would think I was doing drug testing or something). I also got distracted for a while by the release of the final book in one of my favourite series by one of my favourite authors, which I reviewed
here.
I don't know if I'll post again on Wednesday. It depends on how much work I get done and how much time I have. I have no assignments due this week so there's no immediate pressure, but I still have a lot to get done by the end of semester. But I will at least try to visit everyone else's ROW80 blogs, since I haven't had a chance to comment much lately (not sure if Judgemental Dog counts that as a nippable offence or not).
Be patient,

I am not sure what a flash eBook is. It sounds really complicated. I don't think I will try my hand at making one of those. I had a hard enough time learning how to format files for Smashwords. That only took me six months of agony to master, but I got it down pat now.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on with your project for the coming week...
The flash eBook does sound intriguing....there is a lot going on out there in "book land" that's new to me...I'm discovering things like Beta readers, etc.
ReplyDeleteFor my five published books, (the last one published in 2008), I had colleagues reading chapters.
I notice others are creating their e-books on Smashwords, etc., and I'm thinking...Hmm, what to do?
Hang in there....
I'm learning much about new publishing trends from your updates. Sounds like you're working at the cutting edge. Fantastic that you are keeping up with all your work. JD should be happy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, folks :D
ReplyDeleteAs far as Flash eBooks go, they're a long way from being a common format, for the simple reason that most eReaders will not support them. There are various experimental ones (a few Flash but mostly other completely different hardware/software combinations), but the one I'm making will be designed to work on a tablet PC, as it will be a bit more 'interactive' than normal books. However I am also going to have to create a normal eBook, since my user testing will be asking participants to compare the two.
At some point in the next month or so, I'll likely do a proper post on the topic over at my Wordpress blog; however it's almost 1am here and I've been awake since 5am, so I'm about to head off to bed :D
Anything you can get done during classes is a win. When I was in school, I had to take a total break from writing.
ReplyDeleteSmashwords do an excelent free guide to formating book to e-book - it is very clear and amazingly easy. One just has to forget all ones preferences about fonts and justiciation (that is hard!)I have got three books up now since just before Christmas - go for it Laurel-rain
ReplyDeletewell done Rebecca on all you are getting done - that flash e-book sounds tricky
Yikes! Sounds like you're going to be really busy for awhile! Good luck on getting it all done and glad to see Judgmental Dog going a little easy on you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been involved with eBooks for long and am still learning. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now.
